During fashion week, our main focus is often on clothes, people and accessories. Why would it not be, considering these are the crucial elements in the concept of fashion. However, taking into account fashion’s primary trait as an art form, other factors that make those primary elements; the clothes, people and accessories, stand out are often overlooked. Although elements like styling, music and perhaps even photography also play a crucial role in the perception of design and the extent to which collections become successful or not, it can be stated that an even more important element is the runway itself.
By presenting clothes and models in artistic, politically laden or downright otherworldly settings, our perception of design and our willingness to be more than we are, look better than we do is amplified. For many years, front runners like Miuccia Prada have been employing this tool to make their mark during fashion week and in recent years a lot of other fashion houses have been following suit. One of the most impressive of the past season was perhaps Chanel’s endless forest setting.
