The Battle Of The Campaigns

01 Feb The Battle Of The Campaigns

With fashion weeks around the world coming to a close, the time is now upon us to feast our eyes on the creative SS18 campaigns that big name fashion houses have in store for us. Earlier this week, to powerhouses from Paris, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga released their campaigns online and suffice it to say that one is significantly more impressive than the other.

On the more impressive end, we have Saint Laurent’s which was directed by Anthony Vaccarello himself, features the likes of Anja Rubik (who else) and was shot by Inez and Vinoodh. The campaign sees the house’s muses posing effortlessly and ever artistically on top of a skyscraper, making for a truly impressive campaign.

On the other, do-it-yourself hand, we have Balenciaga, which opted for a paparazzi shots-inspired campaign starring Stella Tennant. It shows Tennant and other models trying to “shop” at the brand’s Avenue Montaigne and Rue Saint-Honoré stores in Paris when they are theatrically spotted by the paps. The press notes read: “Hired security guards accompany models on their shopping trips, a further twist in the fashion meta-reality which frames the customer as the Balenciaga VIP”. All we can say to this is: YAWN. We’ve seen this done before by Kanye West for his YEEZY Season Who Cares Anymore and it has since been copied by several low-budget brands. Time to step it up Demna!
