It’s considered the Oscars of the fashion world so it seems only right that the Met Ball is finally getting its own documentary. Condé Nast Entertainment and Vogue have teamed up with Relativity Studios to document the preparation of this year’s Anna Wintour Costume Centre exhibition – part of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art – titled China: Through the Looking Glass, and its accompanying celebrity-filled gala, which will take place on May 4. “This will be an extraordinary opportunity for a global audience to see what goes on before and after guests walk the red carpet, including the months of preparation for the exhibition and storied gala, culminating in the big opening night,” Tucker Tooley, Relativity president said in a statement to Variety. Guests at the gala, known as the Met Ball, include the great and the good of fashion and Hollywood, all of whom make a spectacular effort to dress to the night’s theme. Tickets cost $25,000 per person, with fashion houses and companies often buying entire tables and then inviting stars to join them as their guest. This year’s event will be co-chaired by actress Jennifer Lawrence, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer, businesswoman Wendi Murdoch, Chinese actress Gong Li and US Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The do is often more than a little eventful; last year saw Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles get into a now-infamous scuffle with brother-in-law Jay-Z at one of the event’s after parties. A release date is yet to be set…
