Their names are Ron Arad, Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec, Philippe Starck and Rei Kawakubo, and they have created some of the most common objects that populate our daily lives. In ten themes – think primitive, mutant and abstract amongst others – and ten different stories the trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort presents a collection of pieces from the Centre National des Arts Plastiques. Lying midway between art and function, the exhibition also explores another surprising take on design. For Lidewij Edelkoort, “it can be seen as an oracle through which we can see our destiny. Super-light for easier travel, padded to protect, bourgeois to reassure, intimate to cajole. It’s meditative to calm, figurative to delight, absurd to question and raw to create an attacement. Design is virtual, to transport.” Les Oracles du Design at the Gaîté Lyrique, 3 bis rue Papiun 75003 Paris, to August 16 2015
