As became clear w few months ago, Virgil Abloh’s latest womenswear collection had one central theme: Princess Diana. Now it should be noted that, other than the beautiful invitations that featured a doctored image of Diana on that yacht in the south of France, there was little that directly reminded us of the late “people’s princess”. That is not to say that the effort does not warrant an applause, nor does it reflect negatively on the rather impressive collection. “It’s the variance between imagining her living now, with me iterating on what she meant,” is Abloh’s explanation of the collection, which featured denims that had “Natural Woman” printed on them, tulle wrapped pieces and a tee (which wasn’t presented by the way) which features the Red Cross logo. The latter, of course, being a salute to the princess’ humanitarian work. One thing that has to be noted as well is that Abloh has, during recent collections, clearly pursued higher fashion, both in his presentations and his collection. We must say that, again with this one, it has more than worked out well. Aside from certain extravagant pieces, we can well imagine a modern-day princess, or Celine Dion maybe, strolling down 5th Ave. in one of the shown designs. Check out the collection here.
