Synonymous with innovation and unique Italian craftsmanship.

Valentino’ Clemente Ludovico Garavani’s international debut took place in 1962 in Florence, the Italian fashion capital of the time.

In September 1964, Valentino was to be in the United States to present a collection of his work at a charity ball at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Mrs. Kennedy wanted to view the collection but could not attend the event, so Valentino decided to send a model, sales representative and a selection of key pieces from his collection to Mrs. Kennedy’s apartment on Fifth Avenue.

Mrs. Kennedy ordered six of his haute couture dresses, all in black and white, and wore them during her year of mourning following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

From a salon financed by his father, Valentino’s collections went down in fashion history when worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn and endorsed by Vogue editor Diana Vreeland and art icon Andy Warhol.

Valentino was synonymous with elegance, style and Italian craftsmanship. Their aesthetic is edgy and youthful but steadfastly sticks with the femininity and elegance — the foundation of the label.

On 7 July 2016 Maison Valentino nominated Pierpaolo Piccioli its sole Creative Director of the Maison. “Working closely with the artisans and with the Italian expertise has been fundamental. It has allowed me to understand and perceive the rules in order to break and rewrite them,” he explains. “Fashion belongs to the realm of healing creativity, and can also be a messenger of joy, poetry and visual pleasure.”

Maison Valentino has just launched Creating Shared Value, a new conscious-driven area of its website. It tells the stories behind the house’s daily operations, increasingly committed to a greener transition through dedicated projects in the social and environmental fields.

Even before, it had decided to stop using furs and alpaca fleece, a decision put into practice starting from f/w 2022. It has also decided to use packaging made with recycled paper and recycled cotton cases.
