Virgil Abloh And IKEA Officially Reveal Collaboration

It need not be stated that Virgil Abloh is living a fashion designer’s dream, recently being appointed Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director for Menswear, a slew of collaborations and now the collaboration with homewear behemoth IKEA. The collaboration has been titled “MARKERAD” and is aptly aimed at Generation Y (i.e. millennial). The collaboration seems to consist mostly of rugs that can be hung or placed on the floor with various random (yet significant) words printed on them, including “BLUE” and “KEEP OFF”.

”I want to bring a sense of pride to millennial homes,” Abloh said during the livestream of the collection. “You only notice design when your door knob is broken, or when your car doesn’t work. A project of this nature turns that on its head.” He went on to note: “We’re not designing something cool for cool’s sake. We’re trying to embed an artistic quality in the things that you already have – the chair is elevated because it feels more like an art object than a typical chair that serves its function with four equal legs.”

The collaborative collection will be sure to fly out of IKEA’s retail spaces as prices are set to be “normal”.

Stay tuned for more.
