#WANGFEST

Earlier this week, we reported on Alexander Wang’s #WANGFEST concept for his SS18 presentation in Bushwick, NYC. The concept was quite simple: load models, including Alice Dellal, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Stella Lucia Deopito, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, onto a party bus and unleash them onto NYC’s busy Saturday nightlife. The bus, followed by a caravan of Ram trucks trekked through the city, stopping off at Lafayette and Astor Place (open to the public). wang The real presentation for press and retailers was set to go down in Bushwick, across the street from where Eckhaus Latta had presented their rebellious collection earlier that afternoon. Much like Eckhaus Latta and very much in line with his previous presentations, Wang opted for a minimalistic, almost guerilla style presentation. Unlike the former though, for Wang, this style of presentation has become somewhat predictable. The collection itself, however showed more promise, being set primarily in layering and cut-offs. The looks presented will surely spark a broad range of DIY experiments from aspiring fashionista’s and low-entry competitors alike; a sign that Wang did something right with this collection. There was also a feature of denim, a skinny style, with one leg covered in silver studs or shredded baggies with an easy drawstring waist. wang So, although the presentation itself lacked that special spark, the collection itself stayed close to Alexander Wang’s strength: accessible, easy to wear pieces with a hint of athleticism.
