Raf Simons For CK Is Slowly Becoming A One-Trick Pony

Last night Calvin Klein, helmed by everyone’s favourite designer Raf Simons, presented their mens and women’s FW18 collection. Now, although there are a few good things to say about the collection as a whole, it felt underwhelming and uninspired for the most part.

First of all there seemed to be a lack of vision and poor cohesion in the pieces individually. Most looks seems thrown together and often felt like the models had gone dumpster-diving. Also, it looked like Simons has been taking a few pointers from streetwear designers like Heron Preston in employing firemen (or bin men?) uniforms. He also seems to be a bit of a fan of Demna Gvasalia and his gang, with some pieces feeling like copies of Balenciaga’s SS17 collection.

Then there’s the clear air of repetition which is starting to get downright boring. We get the fact that Calvin Klein and Raf Simons are pretty much responsible for the Americana revival that’s sweeping through the fashion industry, but can we please initiate a new era or at least get a secondary view of things? We’ve already seen the shiny pleather cowboy boots by now and let’s not even start on the retro multi-coloured shirts.

Have a look for yourself over here and see what you think.
